Introduction to Panama

Why Panama?
Panama is a small country with a population of about 3 million and its roughly the size of Scotland; its most famous for its shipping Canal a strategically located trading route between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean linking the continents of North and South America lying between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Since 1989 which saw the end of General Manuel Noriega's dictatorship reign, Panama has become a shining example of enterprise, for this once old fashioned country is now a booming with commerce.

Today Panama in the modern world is so much more of a link than just trade and physical geography for it has developed into an economic investment centre of international business and yet its still retains its character and traditions.

With the development of the country has come a rapid tourism expansion with an influx of overseas property investors to take advantage of the rapid commercial growth; future tourism opportunities are endless for the country is rich with rain forest ecological sites, exotic plants and wildlife plus its coastlines of both the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean offer some amazing beaches. For the adventurous it is possible to visit 3 different oceans in a single day!

Popular locations for property buyers
For UK buyers Panama City was the first foray into the market for this is where some of the safest property investments have been available plus its where the rental market offers the highest potential returns. Since the early days resort-based developments have sprung up and today Panama is now seen as a lifestyle destination as well as a place for investment.

Panama City is a great place for an overseas property buyer to explore initially and you will find many expats are choosing to settle there. The capital has business drive with a vast number of multinational companies now located in the city; builders have developed numerous high-end apartment complexes to cater for the workforce and this was the initial investment opportunity that was spotted by many overseas investors.

The development of more tourist resorts in the coastal areas has been spreading outwards from the Capital City and now there are several property opportunities on sandy beaches of the Caribbean and Pacific coasts.

The retirement incentives and tax breaks are most attractive for potential retirees and investors and the retirement visa process is relatively simple and is related to the purchase of property; this is open to many foreign nationals and although US citizens were the first to forsee such an opportunity, European and UK buyer interest is strong and they have been quick to follow.
